![]() If it is windy/ cold enough for the wind to blow out the heat that I'm putting out then usually a softshell will go over that. Even a non bonded softshell (schoeller 400) for me doesn't breath as well as the Ventrix. I don't even use any sort of synthetic/ down insulation for lift skiing most times. Usually it's thicker base layer, a 100-150 weight fleece, then a 2L Gore Shell. For the real cold days the mid fleece will get switched out for insulation. The RAB even though it was really warm and light as hell would trap body moisture almost better than Goretex. ![]() So it'd have to be REALLY cold for me to want to use it while Touring (which was almost never). What kind of skiing are you doing? In the resort or backcountry? That distinction influences how I dress and layer for each activity.Climbing/ Lifts was kinda a different thing, but not enough for me to want to keep it. My typical layering for winter ski touring + winter mountaineering:īase Layer - Midweight merino or synth. Wicks sweat, keeps you dry, provides some warmth. Mid Layer - Grid fleece - currently Black Diamond Coefficient. I put this on around 25 degrees, it's warm enough to about 10 degrees F for me when working at a moderate pace (backcountry skiing easy uphill), or much colder at an aggressive pace. Mid Layer - Breathable insulation - Arcteryx Atom LT. Still breathes well, synthetic is resistant to moisture and dries fast. Wouldn't recommend down, but some people use it here. Added when temps are <10 degrees F, or for less intense activities. Softshell - Stretch-woven, no membrane - Outdoor Reseach Ferrosi. Stretchy, breathable, very durable, sheds snow, light rain, and blocks moderate wind. Some folks like gore-tex hardshells for this layer. I don't wear hardshells if I can help it, though they're necessary if it is raining hard or really windy.īaselayer bottoms - Same as baselayer top. ![]() Sofshell pants - Stretch-woven, no membrane - Patagonia Mixmaster for winter, OR Cirque for spring. Gloves - softshell w/ leather palm- Outdoor Research Stormtracker. Good dexterity for handling tools/skis, won't overheat while working uphill. Light hat - some light beanie that fits under your helmet. Hardshell - Montane Minimus for good forecast, eVent shell for bad forecast.īelay jacket - Down or synthetic puffy, appropriate to conditions - I use an Outdoor Research Chaos jacket, it's a heavy synthetic similar to Patagonia DAS. Make sure your puff is warm enough to deal with the worst conditions you might encounter.įor day trips or good forecasts, I'll pack a lighter down puffy. Warm gloves - warm, leather palms, can have waterproof liner/ be mitts if you're into that. I have lots, use different ones for different conditions. BD Guide is a much warmer (and heavier/bulkier) option. Typical layering for downhill skiing is actually really similar for me, the difference is that I don't carry a pack, so I wear all the layers I want and adjust with zippers/vents.Ĭhanges from my previous list for resort skiing: Mittens are warmer but impossible to do anything in. Mid-layer: May swap for either a vest or a down puffy, depending on conditions. I think you'd be fine for both skiing and hiking with a Rab Latok, Arcteryx Beta or Theta, etc. I wouldn't use a 'light' (<10oz) shell for skiing - the face fabric isn't durable enough, IMO. They're amazing, but are far removed from ultralight. ![]() They actually work well for wet days backcountry skiing too, but aren't ideal for huge mileage/vert.

Don has a personal reason to attack Alice as the focus of his "rage" due to his shame and guilt in abandoning her. This is left somewhat ambiguous, but it's fair to surmise that Alice survived the farmhouse-attack due to being bitten and then making her way home, unmolested by the Infected due to them seeing her as one of them. Initially, they had planned for the virus to be a worldwide epidemic (hence Selena's comments), but they then decided to have it confined to just Britain (hence Farrell's theory). ![]() On a more practical level, the reason for the ambiguity in relation to the first film is that Danny Boyle and Alex Garland changed their mind mid-shoot as regards the spread of the virus. the virus couldn't be transmitted on, say, an airplane, without the pilot realizing that there was an Infected aboard). Additionally, given that the infection becomes active in only a few seconds and is highly visible, the chances of infecting other areas of the globe are virtually non-existent, as no one could "unknowingly" transmit the disease from one country to another (i.e. By telling the populace that other countries were also infected, this situation could be kept to a minimum. However, if they knew that other countries were free of infection, there would be a mass exodus of people, leading to mass panic and rioting at places like airports, docks and train stations (which Mark ( Noah Huntley) encountered in the first film). If the people thought that the rest of the world was exactly the same as Britain, they wouldn't try to escape, as it would be pointless to flee to another infected country. He hypothesizes that the rumors of infection outside Britain were lies to keep the population controlled. This is never specifically clarified in the film, but the most likely explanation is related to what Sergeant Farrell ( Stuart McQuarrie) says in the first film. They do not eat, speak, rationalize, form new ideas or even determine how they will make their next move, instead acting purely on base instincts, and in this sense, they act very much like traditional zombies. But they are mindless drones who act in numbers, rather than individually. Romero-styled re-animated corpses that feed on uninfected flesh. With this in mind, "The Infected" are not the traditional "zonbi" of Haitian folklore, the living-dead of old Hollywood monster movies, nor the George A. Director Danny Boyle and scriptwriter Alex Garland both feel that the movie does depict zombies, but in a unique way not before seen according to Boyle, "I feel there was respect for the genre, but I hope that we freshened it up in some way" (Production notes for 28 Weeks Later, available here). The idea of what constitutes a zombie has changed over the years through various forms of entertainment, including movies, TV shows, comic books, video games and more, and the definition is hotly debated among zombie fans. ![]() This is how the SourceTree communicates with GitHub and uploads changes. By using shunt-FET dimming with these type of drivers, current is continually flowing and regulated accordingly, regardless of whether the dimming switch is on or off. With the nature of hysteretic converters or constant on-time converters that don’t form feedback loops, the response on the variation of output voltage is fast and the load change is instant. You will need a fast-responding LED driver that enables abrupt changes in load, yet maintains good current regulation and prevents current overshoot from destroying the LEDs. How about connecting a switch parallel to the LEDs? When the switch is off, current flows through the LEDs and shines light when the switch is on, current flows through the switch and there is no light. To achieve a better contrast ratio, you must either use a lower PWM dimming frequency or try to further increase the loop bandwidth. That imposes a limit on the contrast ratio to about 25-to-1 with a 2kHz PWM dimming frequency. For a fixed-frequency switched-mode power supply-type LED driver using a DC-to-DC conversion architecture, the loop bandwidth is typically designed at or below 50kHz. However, the bandwidth of the LED driver limits the dimming frequency and contrast ratio. To achieve high-frequency dimming, most LED drivers have a PWM dimming input. In short, to use PWM dimming and avoid its drawbacks, you should set the PWM dimming frequency higher than 2kHz. PWM dimming can also create the stroboscopic effect, which is when moving/rotational objects look stationary. A banding effect might occur when taking photos or recording videos if the dimming frequency is in such a range. Low-frequency dimming is in the 100Hz to 2kH range, making it perceptible by humans (subtly) and inducing eye strain or fatigue. While PWM dimming provides advantages in LED brightness control, are there any drawbacks? Yes: it comes down to the quality of light with PWM dimming and its effect on different objects. Since human eyes are not responsive to any frequency above 30 Hz, brightness seems linearly changing according to the duty cycle of the PWM signal as seen by human eyes. ![]() The concept of PWM dimming is to leverage the slow response of human eyes by quickly turning the LED on and off (at a frequency above 100Hz) without changing the LED current flowing through during turn-on time. This is not desirable in rear lamp that requires precise color control per governmental regulations. Some older red LEDs might even change from red to orange because of flowing current-level changes. ![]() Once the current changes, the brightness and color change accordingly. The brightness and color of an LED depends on the current flowing through. Let’s review why PWM dimming is preferable to analog dimming in some applications, such as rear lamp. In this post, I will elaborate more on PWM dimming and how to get its frequency fast enough in order to reduce its effect on humans or other living creatures. In one of my previous blog posts, I introduced different dimming methods for light-emitting diode (LED) drivers: analog and pulse-width modulation (PWM) dimming. |
